Fishing Report – Lower Manistee River

The water temperature on the lower Manistee is 69 degrees and the flow is 1790 cfs (cubic feet per second). It’s the start of the dog days of summer here in Northern Michigan! We’ve been mainly targeting small mouth and large mouth bass along with pike in the river, and having good to fair success. I’ve been using a variety of crank baits, and top water baits!

Fly fishing has also been productive fishing bait fish patterns and other streamers. Trout fishing has been a mostly night time gig with the hex hatch at peak or past peak. I will be concentrating my efforts on the Pine River as summer progresses as that river stays cool all summer long. Hopper fishing The Pine can be a very exciting way to spend the day and that should start ramping up as summer continues.
