Fishing Report: Big Manistee River (Below Tippy Dam) – June 1, 2023

Well it’s been very warm and dry the last few weeks in Northern Michigan and we are in need of rain badly!

All the local rivers are low and water temps are on the rise. With these conditions I’ve seen the best trout fishing either in the early mornings or before dark. Some of the best fishing I’ve had lately has been for smallmouth bass in The Big Manistee river and with the recent weather its been the best game around during the day. Combinations of soft plastic, crank baits and even top water baits have been affective; it’s a great way to spend a morning on the river!

Long range forecast has the area cooling down a little bit later in the month which should extend are trout fishing on our local rivers as well.
June is when I start seeing the giant hex mayflies hatch and I’ve already heard reports of some hatching on some local lakes.
I offer some fun combo bass/trout trips where you can fish smallmouth and pike during the day and target brown trout on the fly in the evening.
I’d love to get you on the river for a day so give me a shout!
