Fishing Report: Big Manistee River (below Tippy Dam) – July 17th, 2023
Summer is flying by here in northern Michigan!
I’ve been keeping busy on the river fishing for myself and with customers. I’ve primarily been smallmouth bass fishing and pike fishing. Warm water species are my favorite target this time of year.
A variety of techniques have been effective for the bass. Top water, soft plastics and body baits have all worked. Been seeing a lot of solid fish between 2.5 and 4lbs and had a few shots at some slabs over 5lbs!
For me clouds have been a factor with the bite. Seems like over cast days have been the best for me anyways. Throw in a pike or two and is a great way to spend a day. I’ve had plenty of water to fish with little or no people in sight.
I’m also starting to book for fall salmon and steelhead, so if you’re interested in either of those I would make sure you get on my calendar ASAP! There are some excellent mid week availability throughout September, October & November.
I’d love to get you on the river this year…
God bless,
Chris
