Dog Days of Summer Fishing Update – July 29, 2020
It is the dog days of summer here in northern Michigan!
I’ve been concentrating my efforts on bass and pike primarily on the lower big Manistee River. Been taking some nice fish in the morning on top water baits. A combination of soft plastic baits and hard body crank baits have been effective as well. I’m booking for fall salmon and steelhead for the upcoming fall season.
Salmon will start entering the Manistee River in the next few weeks. I primarily run half day king trips through August with the bite window being fairly limited to the first three hours of daylight. Early kings are extremely strong and challenging to land. It makes for some real fun! I target these salmon on the lower river they are very fresh then and clean great fish to take home.
October and November dates will start filling soon. Fall steelhead in October can be some of the best fishing of the year. A lot of my return clients will be re-booking here shortly so If interested it be wise to get in the books. Hope you can make it on the water with me this fall and let the worries of the world behind and concentrate on the good things. Fishing can cleanse the soul.
